This post will help to create a graphical rich animated bar chart in just couple of minutes.
Bar charts have always been an complementary part of our daily reporting so why not add a little spice and make it more visual rich by adding the animation !
I will use Tableau Desktop and the same database related to COVID-19 pandemic which we used in the last post of butterfly chart.
Database
Data in the below format in the spreadsheet format is linked here in Tableau.
STEPS
STEP NO.1
Drag/add countries in the Rows field and quantity (cases) in the Columns field.
STEP NO. 2
A simple bar chart shall be ready so far.
The tricky part is here. You would notice that we haven't used the date column so far. Add this date dimension into Pages section as below.
Click on the drop down button form the "Pages" and select the related Date property i.e. Day, month or weeks etc. Here i have used the days property to show the movement of each day.
STEP NO. 3
Fundamentals of the chart are ready up to now. Tableau actually has created a layer of each Date property.
Go to right hand side of the chart and adjust animation properties as indicated in the below RED circled image. Right hand and left hand arrows along with pause button shall work as the trigger function to run and control the flow of animation.
STEP NO. 4
Change the graphics of the chart as you require. You may go through my last post to look at different formatting options.
Go to presentation mode by pressing F7, hit the trigger button and enjoy your Animated Bar Chart.
Share this post and let me know of your thoughts if i can be of any help.
